Imperial Valley is in the heart of one of the most scenic desert areas in the great Southwest. Strategically located in the Imperial Valley, Westmorland sits (or is set) among one of the most fertile agricultural regions in the world. Hwy. 86 is a four-lane expressway connecting Westmorland to Coachella Valley and Interstate 10. Forrester Road connects Westmorland to Interstate 8. Westmorland is 87 miles southeast of Palm Springs, 122 miles east of San Diego, 192 miles southeast of Los Angeles, 261 miles west of Phoenix, Arizona, and 31 miles north of Mexicali, Mexico. It is 22 miles north of El Centro, the county seat.
The hub of air service is Boley Field, the county airport, located 19 miles to the south. Direct flights to San Diego and Los Angeles with connections worldwide are regularly scheduled.
Union Pacific Railroad offers mainline service to Portland, St. Louis, Rock Island, Tucumcari and New Orleans for agriculture and industry. Most industrially zoned sites in Brawley, seven miles east, offer direct rail access.
Winter is the most wonderful time of the year in the Imperial Valley. No other place on earth has better weather in the wintertime. Nights are mostly in the high 40’s with days in the high 70 to mid 69’s. The sun shines almost every day. Outdoor recreation such as golf, tennis, dune activities and hiking are high on the list of things to do during winter. The great weather is also why the Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy’s Flight Demonstration Team, chose the Valley’s Naval Air Facility as its mid-winter training ground. The only other places with comparable weather are the Palm Springs and Phoenix, Arizona areas. High summer temperatures are bearable due to well air conditioned homes and businesses throughout the area.
